Founding President
The Asian College of Neuropsychopharmacology(AsCNP) was founded on October 1, 2008 in Tokyo after many enthusiastic discussions in several preparatory meetings. The mission is encourage research and to facilitate communication of ideas in the convergent disciplines of neuropsychopharmacology in Asia and to make an innovation and development of pharmacotherapy in the treatment for incurable psychiatric disorders and provided the patients and their families with hope.
The International College of Neuropsychopharmacology(CINP) founded in 1957 has been a leading international organization and made a large contribution to the development of neuropsychopharmacology in research as well as education. Subsequently the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology(ECNP) have been established in 1961 and 1987, respectively. In Asia, a huge number of patients are suffering from psychiatric disorders, and the prevalence of mental health problems such as depression, suicide and dementia from children to elders will increase, therefore the AsCNP has been desired to be founded for many years.
Under Professor Shigeto Yamawaki, Founding President, the first congress was held in Kyoto, Japan, November 13-14, 2009 jointly with two Japanese Societies of Neuropsychopahrmacology (JSNP) and Clinical Neuropsychopharmacology (JSCNP), and the Korean College of Neuropsychopharmacology(KCNP), which was very successful with fruitful discussion and communication.
The AsCNP has been recognized so rapidly. One month later, the ACNP President organized the leadership meeting of CINP/ACNP/ECNP/AsCNP in Miami and requested the AsCNP President to introduce the AsCNP activity. The ECNP President also invited to the AsCNP President in its 2010 Congress in Amsterdam.
The second congress will be held jointly with KCNP in Seoul, Korea, coming September 23-24 under the new President, Professor Young Hoon Kim. The third congress will be scheduled in China, 2013 and the forth congress in Taiwan, 2015.
